LIUNA Local 506 was proud to take part in the First Annual African American Caucus. A motion was unanimously passed to send a delegate to New Orleans to take part in LIUNA Minority Advancement Departments Conference held between September 26 and 28, 2008. Business Representative Mamadou Bah attended the conference and made our Union proud.
 
LIUNA Local 506’s membership is among the most diverse in the entire labour movement. Labourers’ provide a perfect example that uniting under one banner will bring Justice, Honour and Strength to all. In unity there is strength. Nothing will make our union stronger than when we all regardless of ethnic background or gender stand together and fight together.
 
The mission of the Minority Advancement Department is: To facilitate the achievement of LIUNA’S goals of increasing market share, mandatory apprenticeship, enhanced political action, membership activism, and immigrant rights by increasing communication and servicing as a liaison between the International and LIUNA’S three caucuses – African, Latino, and Women’s, as well as LIUNA Departments, Tri-Funds and other organizations.
