April 28th has been proclaimed the International Day of Mourning.  A day in which we commemorate the workers who lost their lives to work related accidents or diseases.

We, at Local 506 have lost several of our Brothers through the years and on Monday, April 28th, 2008, your Executive Board, Representatives, Staff, Members, dignitaries joined with our Retirees to pay tribute in honour of our fallen members.

During the ceremony, relatives of several of our fallen workers were awarded a commemorative medal as a token of our gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice made by their loved ones.  Coro San Marco performed a small number of appropriate songs. Our guests were later hosted with refreshments.

Following such a memorable event, participants and guests had the opportunity to admire the wonderful exhibition of arts and crafts displayed by the Golden Age Academy.

National Day of Mourning is as much a day to remember the dead
as it is a call to protect the living.
